Wassily Kandinsky in Pd

The page which helps you to use this wassily kandinsky patch. There are basic instructions in there. You can modify and use it for your artistic views for your image manipulation system. It is open source interactive media software, The patch name which is Wassily Kandinsky dedicated for ‘s his perception , also prepared an interactive installation with this patch. Lets take a look at the main patch now,

The patch has spring mass algorithm with [newWave] object. It is very handy, Please take a look at [newWave] object’s help. It is very nice to understand, how it works some way for harmonic oscillation in pd. If you don’t know about Pure Data, download it form puredata.info. It is a open-source data flow programming language which enables us to establish new systems by writing the code blocks into small boxes and then merging these boxes. Very nice to use for any interactive installation exhibitions. Yes, it is free. To be more precise, this spring mass system works with a harmonic oscillation. While you are handling with spring mass, you have some variables which are related to the mass and oscillation motion. As you can change the constancy of the mass, you can change the oscillatory force at real time and control it from the user interface.

As seen in the picture above, there are three sections. Whole picture is it to control your own image manipulation system. When you click the Wassily Kandinsky.pd file (First install Pure Data), you will see GEM window with some white square moving around with oscillation motion.

First step is loading image into the patch…

First box has “loading image and active toggle” buttons. Big bangs buttons (blue, green, orange) loading image into scene. When you load it, active it. There are only three images, you can use for this patch. Click the blue button, suddenly pops out an open panel window, choose your image and load it, when it active, it has already started to move around. That’s all for the first step..

Second section has already assigned to newWave ‘s parameters… There are no any special formulation method with this control section, newWave is very good to prepare for positions, oscillation and some random modifications into the image file. Look at the our control section..

Draw line : draw all image with line
Draw full : convert to original
Flex : image flexibility in dimension
Repetition words means that, Same colors connect with each other from each section.

Rotation and Translation on Screen

Place your image on the screen, it is placement section. It provides rotation and translation for images, there is one more controller on the left side, Toggle = producing ossilation, number = speed of ossilation with random position for entire image.
What is inside in Abstractions ?

What do you want to say about abstraction or encapsulation in Pd. Abstraction is a little mechanism in Pd. There are no outlet or inlet for this patch. It just collects our stuff in Pd. There are three main and three sub abstractions inside it. Let’s take a look at these…

First is windowSetting

…is a basic setting window patch from the gemwin help file. As you can seen, there are three abstractions inside in. “Anti-Alising”, “lighing” and “window proporties” in there. Click for each one, you can use these setting to set your screen.

SOUND ABSTRACTION

Second abstraction is about all sound sources. It has very basic fm synthesis and three sample traveller sections. Use these three sound source at the same time. There are no any connection with visual side. but, I know that you can handle it if you want to create some interaction between sound and visual. You should look send and receive objects to wiggle your sliders at the same time. Pd extended library provides to you very cool fx material to us like reverb, echo etc…

VISUAL ABSTRACTION

Visual abstractions build on [newWave] object. It is spring mass algorhytm inside in. You can change weight and damping factors for your any desire. Inlet 1: K1, D1, K2, D2, K3, D3 variables help you to do this, follow the newWave help file. It is default in this patch. K1=0.05 D1=0.1 K2=K3=D2=D3=0

Blue, Green, Orange are shown to user are different sections, but are exactly same, if you analyze the data flow (top to bottom) you see the newWave parameters are different inside. It is because different square of variation looking more complex motion in inside in it.
P=lay parameters to learn how can it change any image with some object in Pd.
